February 22, 1992

Being a mother is the most fulfilling job or calling I could imagine - Max at 3 is such a smart little boy and I can't believe the things he comes up with. Sammy (9 mos) is the smile in our lives. He is cheerful and loving and snuggly all without the pressure of being the first. I can't wait to stop working - end of this year - to be able to home everyday with my babies and can't wait to have our other children. Children make life complete and are the perfect example of the beauty of the bond between man and wife. Birth is such a miracle and these tiny little people are yours to have for a short time on loan from Heavenly Father. I wonder all the time what Sam is thinking - Does he think "What is this crazy place I've landed in?" Or does he truly come to this earth with a blank mind having forgotten the pre-existence - or does it just gradually fade away? Little ones just seem like they have wisdom in their eyes when they stare at you so solemnly. Mostly what I want to use this journal for is to jot down the fleeting episodes that make me laugh now - that I will forget if I don't have them written down. This childhood experience flies by and I know that 20 years down the road I will cherish my glimpses of Max my 3 year old and sweet little Sammy. The other night on our way up to Michigan - Max spotted something on a sign and I said, "Wow Max, you have really good eyes! Do you know who gave you your eyes?" "I don't know," says Max - "Heavenly Father did," I answered. "Oh," says Max, "How did he glue them?"
